The Determinants of Treatment Adherence among Hypertensive Patients: A Cross Sectional Study

Background: Adherence to the antihypertensive medicines helps finding out the clinical outcomes of hypertension.
Materials and Methods: 228 hypertensive patients carefully chosen by probability sampling method. Treatment Adherence Questionnaire for Patients with Hypertension was used to calculate adherence score. Data was collected, compiled and evaluated in SPSS version 26.0
Results: The sample size was n=228 hypertensive patients. The mean duration of diagnosis of hypertension was 6.84±4.67 years. Treatment adherence was found in 71.1% of study participants. There was statistically significant association of all the variables except gender with TAOHQ score p<0.01. There was statically significant mean difference of age, duration of diagnosis and TAPHQ score in groups p<0.01.
Conclusion: 162 (71.1%) of the patient’s had good treatment adherence, 66(29.9%) patient had poor adherence.
